Oppressive Catholic School Tells Students to Get Rid of Blogs, or Get Out….

No kidding! There’s a story about a Catholic school telling the attending kids to either “dismantle” their blogs or face suspension. WTF? They say their reasoning behind it really has to do with “online predators.” Yeah right! I have to agree with others who’s opinion is that it has more to do with negative comments about the school being posted than that.

I grew up Catholic, and the church really does quell free thought, and now we have proof it also doesn’t like free speech either. They, as well as other denominations and religions, live off of FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt), and it’s what helps keep the “sheep” in line; not to mention keep giving to that collection plate every Sunday. If I had children, and my child/ren came home and told me exactly what that school principal said, I’d have a conference with the principal. Depending on what was said, I’d most likely take my child/ren out of that school. Private schools cost a lot of money for a good education, but the price shouldn’t include teaching children that the basic rights to free speech and thought are bad. This is a trend I’d really rather not see go on….

More and more, we see the blogosphere becoming more and more the center of attention. It’s got many public and private organizations scared. These organizations fear media exposure. More than that, they fear being exposed from their soft underbelly. Really, they probably should be. Usually, complaints posted to a blog are generally posted because the poster is unhappy. My advice to these organizations? Do something about what makes these people unhappy. Read the complaints and address them. Don’t try and sweep it under the rug and pretend everything’s ok, because that just makes things worse. I hate to say it, but even Microsoft stood up and at least put into motion things to help change it’s culture, others can too! Things should not go ignored….

Maybe more later….
