A Small Win for Music Lovers Everywhere….

I few weeks ago, Mark Russinovich at Sysinternals.com revealed that there is, infact, a “root kit” and spyware involved in Sony’s DRM’d CD’s. It seems that music enthusiasts, computer security advocates, and some lawsuits, have pretty much forced Sony to rethink it’s protection scheme.

Mark one for music lovers! As long as we keep rejecting the music industry’s malware attempts at protecting the “intellectual property,” (really, they only have commercial copyrights. I have a fair use right to listen to it how I want) maybe they’ll either quit being underhanded and give up, or they’ll come up with a reasonable way to protect their copyrights. Personally, I won’t buy anymore music unless it’s from iTunes or some other retail store where I know I have at least some rights. I wonder how long it will take for the music industry to get a clue, and quit trying to push copyrights beyond what they were meant for.

Maybe more later….
