Gaming Addictive, News at Twelve….
New Scientist is reporting that, perhaps most, gamers are addicted to the games they play. Ummmmmm…. DUH! I could have told them that! Heh, any of us could have told them that! lol! What I think is interesting about this theory is the fact of the matter, people will get addicted to things they enjoy. I’m a geek, some have called me a hacker, others have called me much, much worse. I’m addicted to technology, although I have to curb it with cheap entertainment, such as DAoC and Secondlife (although SL isn’t really all that cheap if you wanna really create something). I can’t really afford to just buy stuff and tear it apart to see how it works and how I can modify it to be better, and I’m not into pilfering goods for this sort of thing (I dunno. The thought of going the any “pound-me-in-the-ass” prison doesn’t sound appealing).
Basically, I look at gaming this way. I go to work, I’m productive and get my job done. I come home and it’s time for rewards. Weather it’s taking a nap, watching some TV or a movie, indulging in a game, or just vegging and not doing a single thing. It’s my reward and I can dictate how and what I want to do. Call me an addict if I enjoy playing my game for more than an hour or two a day, but there are far worse things to be addicted to that video games. The ones I can think of actually endanger you and have a good chance of eventually killing you. Which would you prefer, something that could perverbially rott your mind, or something that could do it for real? I think I’ll stick with plan A. It seems to be a safer choice.
Maybe more later….
