DAoC OKC Roundtable Wrapup…
It was a success! Well, what I could see of it. A screw in my glasses came out, thus a lens popped out with no way to put it back in. Bleh!
Anywho, I have some negative comments I’d like to share. First, the room at the restaurant was too small, and they tried to fit too many people into it. I’m going to guess they didn’t think they’d have that many people there, so bad planning on their part. Also, it probably would have made more sense to schedule it for a Saturday instead of a Friday. More than likely they would have had quite a few more people show up, but that was probably not the plan. Mythic seems to only want to share real time with people in and around huge cities. Probably a better location would have been Amarillo. Why? Because we’re between 4 to 6 hours away from 3 state capitols, and it’s extremely central as far as travel is concerned. But, this particular roundtable was setup because someone won a drawing, go figure.
Ok, basically they went over the same old stuff about patches and expansions. Nothing’s set in stone. They were able to tell us that they hired someone to come in and do a bunch of new style and casting animations, and even had a small demo animation (which actually looked like he was flipping someone off. Oh how I wish I could sometimes).
It looks like various hybrid classes are getting a reworking this year, and the next big patch is supposed to rework assasin classes. Both have needed this for a very long time. Personally, I’d like to see Minstrels reviewed reworked to make them more than just a speed and power bot. In any case, they were positive.
Probably what disturbed me the most was the lack of “set in stone” plans. They couldn’t give us a definative answer on anything. I can understand that you have to have some flexability in the business they’re in, but come on? We users don’t like being left in the dark, and the only reason we’re still playing your game is because something better hasn’t come along.
I logged in to DAoC when we got back to see if I could remember why I liked to play it. I hate to say it, but there’s just not a good enough incentive to play for long periods of time. Anymore, I’m just a casual player. I have a girlfriend and a puppy to look after and make sure they get time. I don’t have time to go through hours upon hours of play anymore. The answer to this situation? I’ve been playing WoW. They want you to level, with resting bonuses. You can solo most quests, and if you can’t at your level, do something else or get a group together. People are always willing to help out in WoW, which I’ve found that DAoC players aren’t quite so helpful unless there’s something in it for them. Go figure….
Maybe more later…
