Damn this sucks…
Sometimes you just have to ask yourself, “why me?” Hence was the question I asked this exact same question this evening as I was hastely woken up by my girlfriend. She, and a friend of hers, took both our puppy and her friends go for a walk. At some point near the end of the walk, our puppy became unsteady and started tripping over herself. At first we thought it might be bloodsugar, so we fed her. 30 minutes later, nothing had changed.
We called the after hours number for our vet with no answer. Then we called the emergency number he had put on his voicemail. An hour and a half, a shot of steroids, and $87 later, we were back home. The vet said it might be a birth defect. Dr’s orders were to put her in a place with no excitement and no loud noise. We put her in her crate, turned off the light, and went into the computer room.
When I left, she was still unsteady. We’re both worried. We talked about the possible lose of our little girl. My girlfriend said that she doesn’t want another purebred dog because this is the second purebred dog that had birth defects she’s known. I told her not to damn purebred dogs, but blame the breeder. She talked about going to a Sheltie rescue and getting a dog from them. I don’t know if I want to go that route. I know it’s a good option, but I also like the idea having a registered purebred. Anyway, I’m going to do as much as possible to get our puppy taken care of, even if I have to take out a loan to do it. In the end though, I want what’s best for her.
