SIP, VoIP, and Me….
Ok, I found a new VIoP service called ZingoTel. They have a pretty long list of available service areas, even through they may take a few days to process. The service will cost me 14.95 per month, and I’m getting all the bells and whistles I got with Lingo (not gonna send them any business). What follows is why I switched.
Lingo is a VoIP provider that keeps a closed system. This means they don’t allow 3rd party softphones, hardware phones, or adapters to interface with their system. Of course, this means no extra goodies like an Asterisk and/or Freeswitch server can be used, nor can software like X-Lite or sipXezphone. I’ve evaluated this closed system, and I can say it’s pretty stable. They also include some mystery fees and taxes, which bring the service to over $34 per month.
Zingo is an open VoIP provider. They allow softphones and other 3rd party devices to attach to their network. This means I can run an Asterisk server to allow for multiple extensions to be used, and multiple voicemail boxes to be had. I can also setup a bridge to several other VoIP providers and be reachable via them as well.
It all sounds great, right? Well, it does to me anyway. My girlfriend has a tough understanding what is so great about it. She wants to know why I don’t want her listening to my messages. This, that, and the other crap. You know what? Just let me be a geek.
Maybe more later…
