Finally got my Apple iMac!!!
Yup! I’ve gone and joined the darkside and bought myself a shiny new 20″ iMac! What’s this mean? Well, not much to many people, but plenty to me.
First, let’s just say I’ve gotten sick and tired of the latest bullshit from Microsoft. Vista is a mess in every review I’ve read. Sure, you got some apologists out there who say it ain’t that bad; fuck’em. If they want a fully controlled environment, let’em have it. I don’t want functionality crippled in my computer that I paid good money for, just because a part manufacturer didn’t get a signed driver out. I’ve voted with my wallet, and I voted NO to the RIAA/MPAA restraints Microsoft installed in their latest and greatest OS. They can suck a fat donkey dong for all I care.
Second, smoothness and stability in Mac OS X has been a blessing. It could be that I’ve had a slower, single core system the last few years, but it was only slow because it’s no longer considered top of the line due to age. My old main system will most likely stay Win2k for the foreseeable future because some manufacturers don’t have the decency to make cross-platform versions of their software. I’m impressed at how smooth WoW runs as well, with almost all settings turned up as high as they go. I get between 29.9 and 60 frames/second running the Mac native version. Very nice if you ask me.
Last, but certainly not least, the usability is awesome! The interface is clean, apps are easy to install, and it just makes sense. The Unix side doesn’t show too much, but with a little digging can be a great asset when you want to get down and dirty. Dev tools come with OS X, and they have libraries for porting just about any FLOSS source you want. Oh, and let’s not forget the added bonus of a remote! You can choose from any number of entertainment options! It really frickin’ rocks!
Ok, that’s about it for now. I also got a Wii the other day, and I’ll report on that later…. maybe.
