FAIR USE bill Opposed by RIAA - No Really…

There are numerous stories out there about this, but I chose the article at PC World.

The Freedom and Innovation Revitalizing U.S. Entrepreneurship (A.k.A. FAIR USE) bill introduced to Congress Tuesday shows some initiative by the U.S. Government. It seems that at least some of our Congress-critters actually care about “We the People.” It helps lessen the effects of the anti-consumer DMCA our Government unleashed on our unsuspecting nation. Some argue that this bill doesn’t go far enough while others argue that it’s a good start. And (surprise surprise) the RIAA is against it. (imagine that)

The RIAA (and to a lesser extent to MPAA) have declared war on their customers; music lovers everywhere. They have been suing people right and left, wasting time and tons of money, just to scare people into compliance with their master plan. What is that? It’s about much more than file-sharing; money. They want it all! They want to be able to dictate how, where, and with whom you listen to media. If you lose or damage a CD or DVD, they want you to *buy* a replacement instead of making a backup. They want you to *buy* a copy of the media you already own for every device you wish to use it on. That’s their version of Fair Use, and it’s totally anti-consumer. They treat their customers like criminals, and I’m tired of it.

What to do? I’m writing my Congress-critter in support of this new FAIR USE bill, and you should too! Let them know that you mean business, otherwise they have no way of knowing what you think. Also, remember, next year is an election year for many Representatives and Senators, so let’s give them a little push, shall we?

Maybe more later…
