What happens when local Government regulates dogs?

Face it, bad legislation sucks at any level in the Government.

I found an ugent news article from the AKC today. It says that the Albuquerque City Council will vote on May 1st (and has already been voted on and passed ahead of schedule apparently) on rules that will severely limit a citizen’s rights to keep and breed dogs. They plan to instate, among other things, fees upon fees for owning and breeding “unaltered” dogs. Basically, Albuquerque’s just down the road from here, so I don’t want our City Council to be getting any ideas.

So we got a new puppy…

Not exactly what I expected, but she’s cute. We went and visited a sheltie kennel in Lubbock, and was impressed. The lady knew a lot about the breed, and all her dogs looked healthy and beautiful. We didn’t get to see our puppy’s dam because she was at the vet getting fixed. The kennel owner explained that because she didn’t get any show quality dogs out of her litters, the dam would be better off not breeding. We thought this was rather responsible of her.

Update on the puppy situation…

Last week we called the breeder and hoped we could go pick her up. Yeah yeah, I know she was at the six week mark, but that would be old enough to come home. Anyway, the lady said that her little half-wolf puppy ended up having a new strain of Parvovirus, which spread easily to other dogs through feces. My heart sank. The breeder said she couldn’t let any of the puppies go for another two weeks. Me and my girlfriend talk about things, and this is what we’re doing.

To start a website, or not to start one…

I’ve been thinking about starting a general Sheltie website. The only problem is, I’m not sure what software to use. I have a few things in mind, and as of yet, very few software packages come out-of-the-box with everything that one would need in order to start something like this. I’ll tell you some of my observations about different software packages I’ve tried or implemented.

  • Postnuke - A content management system. There are tones of 3rd party modules out there. The drawback? It seems like every new release breaks existing modules. Also, if the developer of a module you rely on quits fixing/updating it, you’re S.O.L., unless you want to take on fixing it yourself. This irritates me so much, I could scream.

Not sure about this stuff….

Hmm….. Well, we went tonight to see the new puppy at the breeders. She sure is a cutie, and I have no doubts she’s as smart, or maybe smarter, than her predicessors. Of course, now she’s right at the five week mark. We held her for about an hour or so, letting her get use to our smells and get accustomed to us handling her. It was quite nice, actually.
