And so life goes on…

Ok, last week I told you Cerwyn got sick. After tons of discussion on what to do, talking to the vet, then getting a second opinion from a different vet, we knew what we had to do. Our little Sheltie girl was not going to get better, and life with drugs to help control the effects of what was going on with, and the sheer fact that we don’t have thousands of dollars to spend for proper diagnoses of her problems, we had her put down. We had been preparing oursleves for the worst, but hoped for the best. In the end, it’s really what was best for her. She’s no longer suffering or in pain, and this thought has kept me sane the past week.

How do you part with your bestfriend?

We had an unexpected thing happen early yesterday. But before I get into that, let me give a little more background. A few months ago my sheltie puppy, Cerwyn, had some neuralogical problems. She couldn’t stand at one point, but with treatment she eventually becamse more of a normal puppy. Her temperment has never been a normal for a sheltie. She’s always been a “touch me not” when it’s come to being held, and I’ve rarely known an inside dog that was like this.

Damn this sucks…

Sometimes you just have to ask yourself, “why me?” Hence was the question I asked this exact same question this evening as I was hastely woken up by my girlfriend. She, and a friend of hers, took both our puppy and her friends go for a walk. At some point near the end of the walk, our puppy became unsteady and started tripping over herself. At first we thought it might be bloodsugar, so we fed her. 30 minutes later, nothing had changed.

Training and puppies…

Ok, so it seems I’m changing gears a bit this week. I haven’t been able to play much WoW, but that’s because I’ve had other things going on.

Tuesday night we went to our first meeting at the local dog obedience club. It was great! We didn’t take the puppy, but should have. Anyway, we talked to some very nice people, and one lady in particular about our little girl. She gave us some demonstrations of different things we can do to break some bad habits our puppy has like trying to “herd” us by nipping at our heals, chewing, and how to get her to come on command. We also talked about potty training some. Now the puppy, being almost 9 weeks old, is learning potty training pretty well. She’s learning to let us know she has to go outside, and we’re learning to watch her. Accidents are in decline, and no solid accidents ina bout 2 days.

Puppies and Water Don’t Really Mix….

There is a time in every puppy’s life where they must, without prior warning, have a bath. Why? Because they smell too much like…… a puppy! Cerwyn, our 8 week old Sheltie, got her first bath yesterday, and I have blackmail pics to prove it (no pic posts yet, need a Flickr account). :) She looked like a wet rat, it was great! Lots of splashing too! She no longer smells like puppy, but something resembling a car air freshener.

Also, we’re most likely going to a local dog obedience club meeting this Tuesday. It should be great, but I have a deep-seeded fear of clubs (some bad experiences) so we’ll see.
