Jay Talbot’s Ramblings

With all the hubbub of the new Windows Vista blowing around, I’ve been pondering my choice of computers. I did my taxes and I’m getting a handsome sum back from our friends/enemies at the IRS. If I don’t get one with this money, it’ll be next year before I’ll have any good amount to just blow again.

I know I’ve got things that I probably should pay off, or at least down, but I’m also getting to the point where I need a new computer. As I sit here an think about the differences between a Mac and a PC, there aren’t many hardware wise, but software wise is a different story. Allow me to explain.

Amateur Radio enthusiasts here in the U.S. were given a gift from the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC has produced an Report and Order (R&O) for WT Docket 05-235, the “Morse code” proceeding.

In the R&O, they explain how they came to the conclusion how morse code was no longer needed to show an operator’s technical proficiencies. Also, the Commission has refuted a long held notion that morse code was needed to “weed out” bad operators. There is no proof, and never has been. You can read about it all in the linked article.

Ok, it’s time to hit the diet again. I now weigh more than I ever have, and the sad part about it is I don’t even need a scale to know this. So beginning January 2nd, 2007, I’m going back on low carb. I get to enjoy all the things I did before…. Meat, meat, and more meat. lol! Oh, I know, I’ve gotta throw in some leafy greens too! It should stick this time. I can’t wait to be able to at least walk for a distance. Not only that, but I think it would minimize my risk of ending up like my father, who died of heart issues and brain damage as a result. Not really the kind of death I want to have really.

When I saw this I was in awe. I have few words that can describe what I’m feeling. But honestly, we should all be pissed off, speak out against what’s wrong, and act now. Nothing pisses me off and saddens me more than the sorry state of the US. We allowed this all to happen, so it’s up to us to fix it. Our Government should be protecting our freedoms and liberties as much as they are claiming to protect us from terrorists. They have lied, cheated, and stolen our basic human rights in the name of the “War on Terror.” Since we must endure another 2 years with the current Bush Administration, I say we let him know just what we think.

Via one of my fav sights, Digg.com, I found this beauty of an article. It explains the tribulations of a 19 year old Polish exchange student forced to live with a wacked out “Fundamentalist Christian” family for 6 months. In short, these people should not breed, so it’s good they haven’t had sex in 17 years as it would be a travesty to the human race.
